The Meeting was called to order by President, Kathy Newcomb, at 12:18 PM.
No births or deaths to report.
1. The minutes from the July 4, 2010 meeting were read and accepted.
2. The Treasurer’s report was read and accepted. Upcoming insurance costs will be $1,313 and expenses will be approximately $6,700. $8,000 will be required until June 2011.
Old Business:
1. Dock Committee Report (Rich Dow, Mitch Keith):
a. Thursday, the front docks were removed as a precaution for Hurricane Earl. Both will need painting by next summer. More cleats and rub rail repairs are required.
b. Large stones are needed for the jetty. Barbara Frappier of the Warwick Company knows the issue. We are working with a company near Woods Hole for an estimate which will be reported over the winter.
c. River Dock has a broken cleat that will be replaced. The swim ladder will be installed over the winter.
d. Aluminum structures need a cost and fit estimate for projected use as new stairs.
a. Public/Private Beach issue: Due to the efforts of certain members, the issue of non-residents using our beach and facilities was less of a problem as the summer progressed. Kathy noticed less traffic by the PBIA people.
b. Jimmy Buffet concert - kudos to Jill Wainwright and Janis Wheeler for their organizing efforts. Applause.
c. Thanks to the Grace’s for a great July 4 function. Applause.
d. Thanks to all front beach owners for an association beach that is second to none. Applause.
e. Field Day Report: Julie Steinkrauss thanked everyone for their super efforts for a wonderful day. The gifts for the silent auction were great as were the bingo prizes. Thanks to the Wainwright’s for use of their driveway. Applause.
f. Bob Horne still has 17 Houses of Wenaumet Bluffs books available at $30.
g. One Hour Parking Limit signs at the Coastal Bay access signs. Still in work at the Town.
3. Hazardous Waste Disposal date is October 16 (0900 until 1:00PM) at the Peebles School in Bourne.
4. Kathy and members addressed the WB Safety Code (SC).
a. The SC inrevised (see the following changes) format will be emailed to all members.
b. The SC will include some areas of concern that a Code of Conduct might state.
c. Put the SC in your rental agreement and post it in your house.
d. The SC will include a “No Glass” on the beach statement.
e. The SC will include a statement the all dock and raft facilities are “Closed after 10 PM”.
New Business:
1. National Grid has issued an “Abutter Notification” letter that projects gas main replacement on our streets. The streets were repaved in October 2008. The DPW has responded that the streets will be restored to their current condition. A public hearing is scheduled for Sept 16, 2010 at 7:00 PM at the Town Hall.
2. Rich Dow invited members to his annual Labor Day event beginning at 3:00PM.
3. Ross Palioca, representing the nominating committee, announced the new VP as Jack Sylvia, and Barry Carlson and Dave Molind as new Directors with terms expiring in September 2012. Julie Steinkrauss is our new President. Motion made and accepted that new officers and directors be installed. Thanks to our outgoing Directors, Eileen Lynch and Chris Timson.
4. Julie presented a gift (Anchor Bookends) to Kathy Newcomb for her superb efforts as our President, Applause by the members.
5. 2011 Dates:
a. First Meeting: Sunday, July 3.
b. Field Day: Saturday, July 30.
c. Last Meeting: Sunday, September 4.

Old Business:

a. Front Dock and Diving Raft went in early. Both will need painting in the Fall. More cleats and rub rail repairs are required. One bent cleat will be repaired this summer. Large stones are needed for the jetty.
b. River Dock has all new environmentally compliant pontoons. Broken cleat will be replaced. A discussion ensued about the swim ladder. All agreed to install the ladder on the float. Aluminum structures at the access point will be stored for the summer.
2. Kathy noted:
a. Two 15 MPH signs were posted on No. Shore Rd.
b. One Hour Parking limit signs will be posted on the River Coastal Bay signs. The Town Manager is forwarding the request to the Selectman. Bourne police (508-759-4453) will enforce.
3. Kathy stated that Bob Horne still has ten Houses of Wenaumet Bluffs books at $30.
4. WBIWA web site – See your Member Listing for access. What a fantastic effort. Member applause for Dave Dow. Make inputs to Dave at the web site. [email protected]. Dave discussed how to access the web site. On your Google search, type in WBIWA and go to the site. Dave is looking for someone in the younger generation to learn the management aspects of the web site. Many items such as neighborhood map and directions to WB are printable from the web site. Contact Dave for House to Rent inputs. The site also addresses restaurants of interest. The tide chart is on the site.
5. Fiberglass Wenaumet Kitten. The second Kitten has been built. New owners are the Dow family. The Yacht Club meeting follows on the Crain’s lawn.
6. Kathy led the discussion on beach use.
a. We have a “family beach” and alcohol and fireworks are a concern. Remind renters of the Wenaumet Bluffs Safety Code.
b. There are non-members using the beach. Kathy Newcomb had a discussion with the South Shore (Pocasset Beach Improvement Association) President and will speak again to South Shore and will initiate talks with the Tahanto Association President. They will be notified again that the WBIWA beach and facilities are “Private”. It is everyone’s responsibility to ask non-members to understand that Wenaumet Bluffs is a Private Beach. We need a together approach on this effort.
7. Revised WB Safety Code has been printed and is available.
8. No Dogs are allowed on the beach.
9. Vandalism: Bob Horne, Jr briefed on his experiences on a Bourne Police participation ride-along program. Total property loss in Bourne last year was $2.9 million. 95% of the stolen goods are to support drug buys. Communicate to all renters about this vandalism. Lock your vehicles and your property.
New Business:
1.Jimmy Buffet event: Saturday, July 10. The event is informal. Bring your own chairs, refreshments and please take your trash home. Thanks to Janis Wheeler and Jill Wainwright for their efforts.
2. Field Day: Saturday, August 14. Julie Steinkrauss addressed the date and support requirements. A decision on water & land events timing will be announced in the future as high tide is around noon.
3. Last meeting: Sunday, September 5, 2010 at 12:15 PM.
4. Hazardous Waste Disposal Times, Dates and Locations:
- Times: 9 AM to 1 PM.
- August 14: Mashpee High School, Mashpee
- October 16: Peebles Elementary School, Bourne
Note: All Bourne residents with a Dump Sticker can go to the sites stated above.
5. Bourne Dump Schedule/Hours
- After Memorial Day (May 31) Open seven (7) days a week until Labor Day (Sep 6).
- Hours are 7 AM to 3 PM.
- After Labor Day, Closed Tuesdays and all Holidays (includes Labor Day).
6. A short discussion about boats tying up too long at the River Dock and not protruding past the front of the Float. Dinghies are permitted use of the gangway area. A donation to the WBIWA would be accepted.
7. A membership discussion ensued reference the Sep 2009 minutes. One membership for a new home purchase outside the membership guidelines was recently refused.
8. Bill Grace invited all residents to his annual July 4th celebration on his front lawn.
